The buying and selling of a small business are among the most important and too often over-looked topics an entrepreneur will face during the lifespan of a business. Buying an existing business is one of the best ways to obtain small business ownership and while many aging small business owners are eager to retire; many are looking to sell. It’s been estimated that only 5% of attempted business sale transactions are successful and this conference is targeting the small business owners least likely to have the resources or be adequately positioned to successfully complete these lengthy and difficult transactions. This conference is presented by a team of experts and concludes with a single panel discussion allowing sufficient time for networking with the speakers and presenters that include MI-SBDC specialists, small business owners, accountants, lenders, and attorneys. Participants will learn more about: - Steps to buying or selling a business - Post-acquisition planning, change management, and company culture - Tax implications, retirement, and estate planning - Positioning your business to sell - Transition planning for success WHEN: Thursday, February 21, 2019; 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM (Registration beginning at 8:30 AM) WHO SHOULD ATTEND: New and existing business owners who are looking to purchase or sell a business, as well as accountants, attorneys, business brokers, financial planners, CEOs and CFOs. HOSTED BY: The Northeast and Northwest Regional Centers of the Michigan Small Business Development Center Northeast in partnership with the MEDC's Michigan Mainstreet Program. Pre-registration is preferred; however, walk-ins will be welcomed.
